n8n workflows

Three n8n workflows that do a morning's worth of work before I wake up: one hunts and scores jobs, one shortlists jobs and rewrites a CV on request, and one turns an inbox into a short Telegram brief.

01 · findsJob RadarChecks 5 job boards every morning, drops old and already-sent jobs, lets AI score the rest and sends the best 5 to Telegram.
02 · decidesThe ShortlistAn AI agent with memory and tools that scores marketing jobs daily for a job seeker and rewrites their CV for any job at the press of a button.
03 · briefsSaint AndrewsReads the morning inbox (read-only), and sends one short brief to Telegram: what matters, what can wait, what to do first.

Why I built them

Every morning started the same way: open five job boards, scroll past jobs I had already seen, then open my inbox and decide what mattered. It took about an hour before any real work.

So I built three small n8n workflows that do it for me. Each one does one job, runs on a schedule, and sends me a short result. The AI in them only ranks and writes. Anything that has to be exactly right, like dates, duplicates and score cut-offs, is plain code.

Job Radar

The problem: good remote jobs get buried under old posts, repeats and jobs I can't apply for from Nigeria.

Executing workflow…Workflow executed successfully
  1. Load my skills profile
  2. Read the jobs it already sent
  3. Fetch RemoteOK, Remotive, Jobicy, Himalayas and We Work Remotely
  4. Run targeted searches for my skills
  5. Drop old posts and repeats
  6. AI scores each job against my profile
  7. Send the top 5 to Telegram and save them to a Google Sheet
  • Only fresh, reachable jobs: posted in the last 3 days and open to applicants in Nigeria.
  • Never the same job twice: every sent job is written to a Google Sheet, and the next run skips it.
  • A backup brain: Groq scores the jobs, with Gemini plugged in as a backup model.
  • A quiet morning still gets a message: if nothing new passes, a different branch sends "no new jobs" instead of silence.

The Shortlist

The brief: a digital-marketing job seeker wanted fewer, better jobs and a CV tailored to each one, without paying for any tools.

It has two parts. Every morning it scans and scores new jobs. Any time, a button on its dashboard asks the same agent to rewrite the CV for one job.

Executing workflow…Workflow executed successfully
  • A real AI agent: it has short-term memory, a tool to read the base CV, and a "Think" step, so it reasons before it scores or writes.
  • Treats job posts as untrusted: the agent is told never to follow instructions inside a post, never to invent experience, and to reply in JSON only.
  • Cheap on AI calls: known jobs are skipped by link, only marketing roles from the last 7 days go through, and jobs are scored in batches of 8.
  • Useful summary: only jobs scoring 55% or more make the email, with Nigeria-eligible jobs listed first.
  • Its own dashboard: a second workflow serves a small web page with the jobs and the "Shortlist" and "Rewrite it" buttons.

Saint Andrews

The problem: the first hour of the day went on reading email to find the two things that actually mattered.

Executing workflow…Workflow executed successfully
  1. Wake at 07:00 Lagos time
  2. Read the inbox, read-only
  3. Put every email into one list
  4. AI writes a brief: top, today, can wait
  5. Send it to Telegram
  • The AI cannot act: it is a plain AI step, not an agent. It has no tools and no memory. It can only read the list and write the brief.
  • Read-only by design: the workflow has no node that can send, move or delete email.

A real run: 10 emails in, one brief out.

Built to be safe

  • AI ranks, code decides. Cut-offs, dates and duplicates are handled in code, so a wrong AI answer can't send a stale or repeated job.
  • Least access. Each workflow only gets the permissions its job needs. The email reader can't send email.
  • Untrusted input stays data. The Shortlist agent treats every job post as data, never as instructions.
  • Free to run. Groq and Gemini free tiers on n8n, with no paid APIs.

Results

  • Job Radar, first full run: 444 jobs checked, 134 new after filters, and the top matches scored 85%, 70% and 55%.
  • The Shortlist: a tailored CV is ready in about 15 seconds after pressing the button. One morning's scan scored its top jobs 75%, 85% and 85%.
  • Saint Andrews: one run turned 10 emails into a single short brief on Telegram.

What I would do next

  • Alarms for logins. Job Radar stopped once when its Google Sheets login expired. An error workflow that pings Telegram would have caught it the same morning.
  • Host n8n myself. Move the workflows from a trial account to my own Linux server, next to TrailersHub.
  • One shared brain. Let Job Radar and The Shortlist share the same scoring rules, so they never disagree.
